Archaeological findings contiue to provide us with materials showing the state of development of the musical arts in ancient Iraq.  In her study 'The Theory of Music begins in Sumer,' Dr. Duchesne Guillemin of the University of Liege, Belgium, presented evidence for the first time of the existence of a musical system which included a diatonic scale in Sumer around 3000 B.C.
