Saddam Insane should gggo into exile immediatly
Saddam <Saddam@Irag.com>
Bagdady, Irag Iraq - Sunday, February 16, 2003 at 01:47:21 (CST)
By US Senator Robert Byrd
D-West Virginia
Senate Floor Speech
Wednesday, February 12, 2003
To contemplate war is to
think about the most horrible
of human experiences.
On this February day, as this nation
stands at the brink of battle, every
American on some level must be contemplating
the horrors of war.
Yet, this Chamber is, for the most part,
silent -- ominously, dreadfully
silent. There is no debate, no discussion,
no attempt to lay out for the
nation the pros and cons of
this particular war. There is nothing.
We stand passively mute in the United States
Senate, paralyzed by our own
uncertainty, seemingly stunned by
the sheer turmoil of events. Only on
the editorial pages of our newspapers
is there much substantive discussion of
the prudence or imprudence of engaging
in this particular war.
And this is no small conflagration
we contemplate. This is no simple
attempt to defang a villain. No. This
coming battle, if it materializes,
represents a turning point in U.S.
foreign policy and possibly a turning
point in the recent history of the world.
This nation is about to embark upon
the first test of a revolutionary
doctrine applied in an extraordinary
way at an unfortunate time. The
doctrine of preemption -- the idea
that the United States or any other
nation can legitimately attack a
nation that is not imminently threatening
but may be threatening in the
future -- is a radical new twist
on the traditional idea of self
defense. It appears to be in contravention of
international law and the UN Charter.
And it is being tested at a time of
world-wide terrorism, making many countries
around the globe wonder if they
will soon be on our -- or some other
nation's -- hit list. High level
Administration figures recently
refused to take nuclear weapons off
of the table when discussing a possible
attack against Iraq. What could be more
destabilizing and unwise than this type
of uncertainty, particularly in a
world where globalism has tied the
vital economic and security interests of
many nations so closely together?
There are huge cracks emerging in our
time-honored alliances, and U.S.
intentions are suddenly subject to
damaging worldwide speculation.
Anti-Americanism based on mistrust,
misinformation, suspicion, and alarming
rhetoric from U.S. leaders is
fracturing the once solid alliance
against global terrorism which
existed after September 11.
Here at home, people are warned
of imminent terrorist attacks with
little guidance as to when or where such attacks might occur. Family members are
being called to active military duty,
with no idea of the duration of their
stay or what horrors they may face.
Communities are being left with less
than adequate police and fire protection.
Other essential services are also
short-staffed. The mood of the nation
is grim. The economy is stumbling.
Fuel prices are rising and may soon spike
higher.
This Administration, now in power
for a little over two years, must be
judged on its record. I believe that that
record is dismal.
In that scant two years, this Administration
has squandered a large
projected surplus of some $5.6 trillion
over the next decade and taken us to
projected deficits as far as the eye
can see. This Administration's domestic
policy has put many of our states in dire
financial condition, under funding
scores of essential programs for our
people. This Administration has
fostered policies which have slowed
economic growth. This Administration has
ignored urgent matters such as the crisis in
health care for our elderly.
This Administration has been slow to
provide adequate funding for homeland
security. This Administration has been reluctant
to better protect our long
and porous borders.
In foreign policy, this Administration
has failed to find Osama bin Laden
In fact, just yesterday we heard from
him again marshaling his forces and
urging them to kill. This Administration
has split traditional alliances,
possibly crippling, for all time,
International order-keeping entities
like the United Nations and NATO.
This Administration has called into
question the traditional worldwide
perception of the United States as
well-intentioned, peacekeeper. This Administration
has turned the patient
art of diplomacy into threats, labeling,
and name calling of the sort that
reflects quite poorly on the intelligence
and sensitivity of our leaders,
and which will have consequences for years
to come.
Calling heads of state pygmies,
labeling whole countries as evil,
denigrating powerful European allies
as irrelevant -- these types of crude
insensitivities can do our great nation no good.
We may have massive military might, but we cannot
fight a global war on terrorism alone.
We need the cooperation and friendship
of our time-honored allies as well as the
newer found friends whom we can attract with
our wealth. Our awesome
military machine will do us little good
if we suffer another devastating
attack on our homeland which severely
damages our economy. Our military
manpower is already stretched thin
and we will need the augmenting support
of those nations who can supply troop
strength, not just sign letters
cheering us on.
The war in Afghanistan has cost
us $37 billion so far, yet there
is evidence that terrorism may
already be starting to regain
its hold in that region. We
have not found bin Laden, and
unless we secure the peace in
Afghanistan, the dark dens of
terrorism may yet again flourish
in that remote and devastated
land.
Pakistan as well is at risk of
destabilizing forces. This
Administration has
not finished the first war against
terrorism and yet it is
eager to embark
on another conflict with perils much
greater than those in Afghanistan. Is
our attention span that short? Have we
not learned that after winning the
war one must always secure the peace?
And yet we hear little about the
aftermath of war in Iraq. In the
absence of plans, speculation abroad
is rife. Will we seize Iraq's oil fields,
becoming an occupying power which
controls the price and supply
of that nation's oil
for the foreseeable future?
To whom do we propose to hand
the reins of power after
Saddam Hussein?
Will our war inflame the Muslim
world resulting in devastating
attacks on Israel? Will Israel
retaliate with its own nuclear
arsenal? Will the Jordanian and
Saudi Arabian governments be toppled
by radicals, bolstered by
Iran which has much closer
ties to terrorism than Iraq?
Could a disruption of the world's oil
supply lead to a world-wide recession?
Has our senselessly bellicose language
and our callous disregard of the
interests and opinions of
other nations increased
the global race to join
the nuclear club and made
proliferation an even more
lucrative practice for
nations which need the income?
In only the space of two short years
this reckless and arrogant
Administration has initiated
policies which may reap
disastrous consequences
for years.
One can understand the anger and
shock of any President after the savage
attacks of September 11. One can appreciate
the frustration of having only a
shadow to chase and an amorphous,
fleeting enemy on which it is nearly
impossible to exact retribution.
But to turn one's frustration and
anger into the kind of extremely
destabilizing and dangerous
foreign policy debacle
that the world is
currently witnessing is
inexcusable from any
Administration charged with the
awesome power and responsibility
of guiding the destiny
of the greatest
superpower on the planet.
Frankly many of the pronouncements
made by this Administration
are outrageous. There is no
other word.
Yet this chamber is hauntingly
silent. On what is possibly the eve of
horrific infliction of death
and destruction on the population
of the nation
of Iraq -- a population, I might add,
of which over 50% is under age 15 --
this chamber is silent. On
what is possibly only days
before we send
thousands of our own
citizens to face unimagined
horrors of chemical and
biological warfare --
this chamber is silent.
On the eve of what could
possibly be a vicious
terrorist attack in retaliation
for our attack on
Iraq, it is business as
usual in the United States Senate.
We are truly "sleepwalking through
history." In my heart of hearts I pray
that this great nation and its
good and trusting citizens
are not in for a
rudest of awakenings.
To engage in war is always to
pick a wild card. And war must
always be a last resort, not a
first choice. I truly must
question the judgment of any
President who can say that a
massive unprovoked military
attack on a nation
which is over 50% children
is "in the highest moral
traditions of our country".
This war is not necessary at
this time. Pressure appears to be
having a good result in Iraq.
Our mistake was to put ourselves
in a corner so quickly. Our challenge
is to now find a graceful way out
of a box of our own making.
Perhaps there is still a way
if we allow more time.

that bush, bless his heart has not
mentioned bin laden's name in the last year?
yup..his aides, his hawks..others around him.
but not bushwhacko himself.
hmm..doesn't bushwhacko have
economic/business dealing with the
bin ladens..makes ya wonder
if laddy's family said quit
dragging our son's name through
the dirt, or we'll start an
advertising campaign to expose

ah the little rednecks are out
spouting in full force.
stevo..a peaceful diplomatic
solution to disarming iraq
was proposed by the french/german/belgium
coalition..send in UN troops to back the inspectors.
if i recall iraq is about the size of calif.
if america, had real balls, it would go in as
cops with search warrants..under the guise
of UN troops..then, maybe the
world would believe that the
reason for america's interest
was truely honorable.
right now..it is apparent to everyone, but
the most idiot, gulliable, niave or warmongering
the purpose is to control the taps of oil
production.
stevo, i also felt you very
misleading with your comment
about the info i posted from
bill blum's book. yeah..i did
only put part of the info on this page
but, i also gave a link to the book.
geez..ya want me to read it out loud
to ya..groan..talk about having
to spoon feed ppl.
hey..anyone know who michael k. powell is?
the dude who is in charge of the FCC..federal
communications commission..um..er ..ah well
mikey is colin powell's son
talk about affirmative action huh.
who says blacks aren't making it in
america..all they have to do is
have a daddy who was a nixon lacky..who
becomes a bush backie.
yeah..the american media is free
to express unbaised news..well
at least they are free to express
bushwhacko's version of unbiased news..
as much of it as they want.
mikey would never pull their licences.
ner..
watching desmond tutu last night on
donahue was a blast. what a kewl
old man..when a pro-invader was
going at reasons to invade iraq..
tutu said..hey..do you remember
when south africa was asking that
you free us from an oppressive regime.
we weren't asking you to come
in and bomb us. do you really think
the iraqi ppl want to be bombed.
wonderful peace protests going on around the
world..wake up rednecks. the
world doesn't want war. dubya and his chicken
hawks do..
david you are right about the american
education system..it had been dumbed down.
americans are taught to be
nationalistic from the first
day of school. they know little of
what happens outside of their
borders, unless they live near
enough the border to pick up
broadcasts. or if they own a satellite
dish. poor americans don't own satellite
dishes..so they are really brainwashed
into believing the propaganda.
thank god, my parents ensured i
had a an international education.
or, i'd probably be as dumbed down
as the goose stepping jack booted
neo nazi's rednecks who a demonstrating
their ignorance for the whole
world to see.
hey..ain't it interesting that in london
peace protesters weren't harrassed by the police
but here in america..in new york
there are reports of arrests of the

Well Big Big City/'FreeDUMB'/Carlock/ etc---you've been proven wrong again.
Months ago, I told you, if the U.S. goes to war
Gas prices will go to $2.00 a gallon!
Guess what. I was not only right, but it is there NOW. And predicted to go past $3.00 or $4.00 when YOUR bombs,
( not ours) start killing people.
'Bloody'Bush has certainly brought people together hasn't he!
With him and the old cronies of the Nixon era brought back to life.
People are against Bush and his regime ALL OVER THE WORLD.
The Russian people are uniting, like they have never done, in decades.
The entire world, is hating Bush!
Oh, I'm sorry--There are people ( Like you) that want war???
Could you please tell me where JUST ONE Rally was held, supporting WAR?
I'd like to hear where the Pro-Rally was held!
Tell me---------If you can.
If you think the WORLD protests are bad now,
if you remember history, when war starts, and Bush cranks the draft up, and the police and soldiers crash in your doors, conscripting people,
THERE WILL BE RIOTS, many times worse than the New York Draft Riots in 1863.
FreeDUMB/Carlock/Big Big City--now's the time to wise up; and not be the thug, child killer, and murdering AmeriKan RepubliKan that
'Bloody'Bush wants you to be.

A message to our Muslim brothers in Iraq....We are following with great interest and concern the preparation of the crusaders to launch war to occupy a former capital of Islam, to pillage the wealth of Muslims and install a puppet government that follows the dictates of its masters in Washington and Tel Aviv.
We want to affirm a number of important factors amid this unjust war -- the war of infidels led by America with its allies and agents. Fight the allies of the devil.
Firstly, we stress the loyal intentions that the fighting should be in the name of God only, not in the name of national ideologies nor to seek victory for the ignorant governments that rule all Arab states, including Iraq.
Secondly, we remind that victory is from God alone. We only have to exert all efforts through preparation and Jihad.
Thirdly, it became known to us from our fighting against the American enemy that he principally depends in his fighting on psychological warfare because of his massive propaganda capabilities, and on intense air bombardment to hide his prominent weaknesses, and those are fear, cowardice and the absence of a fighting spirit among American soldiers.
These soldiers are totally convinced of the injustice and deceit of their governments as they don't have a just cause to fight for. They are fighting for weapons and oil traders... including the gang of criminals at the White House. I add to that the personal and crusader spite of Bush the father.
It also became known to us that the best and most effective available methods to deplete the airpower of the enemy crusade is by digging armed and camouflaged trenches in large numbers.
(He proudly recounted his days in Afghanistan when American airpower was constantly bombing al Qaeda bases. According to the taped voice, al Qaeda only sustained minor losses while the United States spent a great deal of its airpower, firing day and night.)
Despite all that, the United States did not dare to storm our bases. There is no greater evidence of their cowardice, fear and deceit than this.
The result of this battle was the great and massive defeat for the evil global coalition in all its force against a small group of mujahideen in their trenches.
Our Iraqi mujahideen brothers in Iraq, don't be scared of what America is propagating, such as the lies about its forces and its smart bombs and laser-guided bombs. The smart bombs have no sizable effect in the mountains, trenches and forests.
You should increase the number of trenches....
We advise the importance of dragging the enemies' forces to a long, exhausting and continuous battle.
The worst fear of the enemy is street and city fighting, this is the war in which the enemy expects great losses.
We stress the importance of martyrdom attacks against the enemy. These attacks inflicted on American and Israel a disaster they have never experienced before.
We say to honest Muslims that they must move, incite and mobilize the nation amid these great events to liberate themselves from the enslavement of these oppressive, unjust, apostate ruling governments, which in turn are enslaved by America, and to establish the rule of God on earth, and the most eligible for liberation are Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
This crusade war is primarily aimed at the people of Islam regardless of the removal or survival of the socialist government or Saddam.
The Muslims as a whole, and in Iraq in particular, should pull up their sleeves and carry Jihad against this oppressive offensive and to make sure to stock up on ammunition and arms. This is a duty for them.
It does not hurt that in the current circumstances, the interests of Muslims coincide with the interests of the socialists in the war against crusaders, taking into account our belief and declaration of the apostasy of the socialists.
The socialists and these rulers have lost their credibility of their rule a long time ago and the socialists are infidels wherever they are -- whether in Baghdad or Aden (Yemen).
P.S. Keep an eye on my eldest son Sad bin Laden! He's gonna be great!!!;)

You are living under a hated dictor not only hated in your country but throughout the world. The Iragi people should put an end to this not just the Americans. After 13 years of sanctions on Iraq, now the whole world says NO to war. Where were the world for these 13 years?
who thinks that Iraqi people had peace during the last 13 years is wrong. Many Iraqi people died from hunger and cancer after the gulf war, many fled from Iraq, many became very poor, many became thieves, many women became whore to live, many are hungry, many lost their mind, many lost their beloved ones, many lost their homes and job, many children lost their parents, many lost their families, and the worst thing is that many lost their humanity. Iraqi currency became rubbish.
Now, can anyone solve all these problem neither by war nor by sanctions instead of going outside in the streets and protest for the peace in Iraq ?! I DOUBT

CIA 'Sabotaged Inspections and Hid Weapons Details'
By Andrew Buncombe in Washington
Independent UK
Friday 14 February 2003
Senior democrats have accused the CIA of sabotaging weapons inspections in Iraq by refusing to co-operate fully with the UN and withholding crucial information about Saddam Hussein's arsenal.
Led by Senator Carl Levin, the Democrats accused the CIA of making an assessment that the inspections were unlikely to be a success and then ensuring they would not be. They have accused the CIA director of lying about what information on the suspected location of weapons of mass destruction had been passed on.
The row is of heightened significance given the Bush administration's preparations to argue later today before the UN Security Council that the inspections have run their course and it is now time to move to military action.
France, Russia, Germany and other members of the Security Council are likely to back a counter-proposal to increase the number of inspectors, providing them, if necessary, with the support of armed UN soldiers, as a means of avoiding a military strike.
The accusation of US sabotage emerged from a series of Senate hearings on Capitol Hill. On Tuesday, George Tenet, the CIA director, told the armed services committee panel that the agency had provided the UN inspectors with all the information it had on "high" and "moderate" interest locations inside Iraq -- those sites where there was a possibility of finding banned weapons. But Mr Tenet later told a different panel that he had been mistaken and that there were in fact "a handful" of locations the UN inspectors may not have known about.
Senator Levin, from Michigan, responded by saying the CIA director had not been telling the truth. Citing a number of classified letters he had obtained from the agency, he said it was clear the CIA had not shared information with the inspectors about a "large number of sites of significant value".
He said the CIA had told him additional information would be passed to the inspectors within the next few days.
Mr Levin pushed Mr Tenet on whether he thought the inspections had any value. The CIA director replied: "Unless [President Saddam] provides the data to build on, provides the access, provides the unfettered access that he's supposed to, provides us with surveillance capability, there is little chance you're going to find weapons of mass destruction under the rubric he's created inside the country ... The inspectors have been put in a very difficult position by his behaviour.
Mr Levin said later he believed the CIA had, in effect, taken the decision to undermine the inspections. "When they've taken the position that inspections are useless, they are bound to fail," he told The Washington Post. "We have undermined the inspectors."
Mr Levin has raised his concerns with the White House. In a letter to President Bush, the senator asked that America provide the inspectors with as much information as available.
He wrote: "The American people want the inspections to proceed, want the United States to share the information we have with the UN inspectors and want us to obtain United Nations support before military action is used against Iraq."

War for World Dominance
Karen Talbot
February 1, 2003
George Bush's recent State of the Union speech should alarm the
people of
our country and the entire planet about the perils facing us all-
and they
are not the ones he spoke of with arrogance, lies, and threats.
The true
significance of his words is yet to be fully comprehended by many
of us.
The real reasons for a war against Iraq.
Bush, and the ruling Wall Street elite he represents, are
desperately
seeking to cope with a growing economic crisis attributable to
fundamental
contradictions in the very system over which they reign. As in the
past, war
is seen as the answer.
Today, they want to go to war to grab the vast untapped oil riches
of Iraq
and the Persian Gulf.
More importantly, they want to literally rule the world because
they think
it will rescue them from the deepening economic morass and bring a
cornucopia of super profits.
They are also massively shifting the burden of the crisis to the
workers,
poor, and middle strata in the United States and in every corner of
the
world. In the process they intend to siphon off even more wealth
to the
minuscule topone percent of society. Such were the undercurrents
beneath
Bush's State of the Union rhetoric.
There is no question, Bush and the oil interests he and his cohorts
represent, aim to seize the "black gold" reserves of Iraq, second
only to
those of Saudi Arabia-easily extractible, easily refined, high
quality, and
therefore highly profitable petroleum, the possession of which
would allow
U.S. oil companies also to undermine OPEC and thus control prices.
They are
driven by the fact that Iraq is strategically located near other
oil-rich
nations of the Middle East, critical waterways, and key pipeline
routes from
Central Asia. They are also driven by the reality that the world's
hydro-carbon reserves are being depleted rapidly, yet the oil
wells of Iraq
will continue to produce after most others run dry.
To take over these oil reserves, they need to occupy Iraq and
stave off
companies from rival powers like France, Russia, and China, all of
which
have been granted concessions by the Iraqi regime to develop a
considerable
portion of those riches.
Equally important: they need to control the people of Iraq. After
all, from
the time oil was discovered in their country, the mass of Iraqi
people waged
bitter struggles for nationalization of their natural resources
against
brutal imperialist domination by Britain and the United States who
were
acting on behalf of the giant oil corporations. This was also the
experience
of the Iranian people when the CIA deposed their democratically-
elected
leader, Mohammad Mossadegh, in 1953, because he nationalized
Iran's oil. The
same dynamics are being echoed today in Venezuela.
Moreover, a war against Iraq will generate even greater profits
for the
armaments industry. What better way to stuff their coffers than to
build
weapons and then blow them up- perfect "built-in obsolescence."
There are
built-in consumers, as well-the taxpaying public which has dished
out
trillions of dollars to the Pentagon in recent years while basic
social
programs have been undermined or eliminated. And now, more than
ever, there
is the lucrative sale of U.S. weaponry to the new NATO members
from Eastern
Europe who are being prevailed upon to update their military and
vastly
increase their armaments budgets to the tremendous detriment of
their own
social programs.
World dominance
These are key reasons for the current war frenzy. But there is
something
qualitatively more dangerous underway. There is an overriding long-
planned
agenda being orchestrated and directed by the Bush regime for
total world
dominance-economically and militarily. Such dominance is sought in
order to
wield full control over the governments and peoples of the poorer
nations,
but also over the European Union, Japan, and the other imperial
rivals.
Bloody wars have been waged in the past among such competitors
seeking
control over global markets and resources. It would be a mistake
to assume
we are beyond such confrontations today.
Attacking Iraq is the lynchpin in the scheme for world dominance.
Bush,
Colin Powell, and others in the administration have said the
assault will
begin within the next few weeks, no matter what the UN does. In
fact, it
probably will work to Washington's advantage to act without the UN
as this
will eliminate the necessity of making deals with France and
Russia for
sharing the spoils in order to win their votes in the Security
Council.
Nevertheless, it is possible that on the eve of an actual attack,
these
nations will capitulate, perhaps even voting at the last minute
for a new
enabling resolution in a desperate attempt to latch onto at least
some of
the booty.
Leading up to this critical turning point, we have seen the
alarming growth
in clout of the military-industrial complex, about which President
Eisenhower sounded a dire warning. We have seen the advent of new
military
doctrines projecting "full spectrum dominance," "pre-emptive"
nuclear
strike, and the "war against terrorism." We have heard the U.S.
Space
Command speak openly about "dominating space to dominate Earth" in
order to
protect U.S. investments. We have witnessed the moves to weaponize
and
nuclearize space and to build estabilizing anti-ballistic
missiles, while
scrapping the ABM Treaty . We have seen the rapid eastward
expansion of NATO
with the U.S. at the helm. We have seen a significant increase in
the huge
number of globe-encircling U.S. military bases. These new
installations are
strategically located near oil fields and pipeline routes,
particularly in
Central Asia, Georgia, Afghanistan, and the former Yugoslavia.
We have seen the use in Iraq, Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan, of ever-
more
powerful and illegal weapons, including fuel-air explosives,
cluster bombs,
radioactive depleted uranium- tipped armaments and "bunker
busting" bombs,
all of which have killed thousands of civilians. Are these not
weapons of
mass
destruction?
"Shock and Awe"
All of that will pale by comparison with what's ahead. When Bush
gives the
word, "the full force and might of the U.S. military" will be
unleashed in
an unprovoked assault against a nation of 22 million people who
already have
suffered immeasurably from brutal war and economic sanctions-a
country which
ironically is the "cradle of civilization."
Even as Bush spoke before the joint session of Congress, the
Pentagon leaked
reports that the U.S. will hit Iraq with up to 800 cruise missiles
in two
days-more than twice the number of missiles launched during the
entire 40
days of the 1991 Gulf War. The intent is to shatter
Iraq "physically,
emotionally and psychologically." The objective is to "shock and
awe."
The "Shock and Awe" scheme was concocted by military strategist
Harlan
Ullman who said "you have this simultaneous effect-rather like the
nuclear
weapons at Hiroshima-not taking days or weeks but minutes."* A
Pentagon
official told CBS News following a briefing on the plan: "The
sheer size of
this has never been seen before, never been contemplated before."
A senior Bush official confirmed that "Shock and Awe" is the
concept on
which the war plan is based," according to CBS News.
"Shock and Awe" is aimed at demonstrating what Armageddon would
look like.
It is aimed at trying to terrify the people and nations of the
world-any who
might dare challenge U.S. dominance or stand in the way of
conquest and
plunder. Bush and his entourage have repeatedly stressed that Iraq
will be
just the beginning of an unprecedented ongoing war. Add to this
his threat
to use nuclear weapons in a pre-emptive first strike. Any country
he labels
part of the "axis of evil" is fair game. Zbigniew Bzrezinski in
his book,
"The Grand Chessboard" dubs this as a "new kind of hegemony,"
a "benevolent"
imperialism.
Bush exhibits absolutely no glimmer of human concern for the tens
of
thousands of Iraqi civilians who will die horrible deaths. Almost
half of
the Iraqi people are under age 14, so a high percentage of
civilian deaths
will be children. This is on top of the more than 500,000 children
who have
died from the sanctions according to UNICEF. And what of the
additional
hundreds of thousands who will suffer injuries, illness, hunger,
and total
disruption of their lives.
There's barely a murmur of concern for the likely casualties among
U.S.
troops, or the probability that many of them, as with veterans of
the 1991
Gulf War, will be stricken by "Gulf War Syndrome" caused by
radioactive
depleted uranium and other toxins.
What of the United Nations?
Bush, Colin Powell, and other administration insiders have made it
clear the
U.S. will carry out the assault on Iraq with or without the
authority of the
United Nations. Joining Bush's war will be junior partner Britain,
dragged
into the fray by Prime Minister Tony Blair, who is totally
disregarding the
overwhelming opposition of the British public. After-all, Britain
is keen to
restore at least some of its previous imperialist status in the
region.
They will carry out this war in defiance of the UN Charter and
international
law, and with disdain for the pleas for peace of tens of millions
of people
the world over. This includes the protest of what has certainly
become a
wide-ranging majority of people in the U.S. They will proceed with
the
assault without "smoking gun" evidence, merely resorting to
presenting more
circumstantial "proof" before the Security Council as the hour of
the attack
nears. But then, Washington really feels it doesn't need to
convince the UN
because they have decided to wage war no matter what happens.
There is a growing worldwide demand that there should be no
legitimization
of this war through capitulation of UN Security Council members to
bribes
and threats. Such a development would not only violate every tenet
of
international law but it would undermine the United Nations itself.
Despite the Bush administration's obvious disdain for the rest of
the world,
the economic turmoil spreading in the U.S. ironically has been
partially
staved off by a massive inflow of capital from Europe, Asia,
Middle East
oiligarchies and elsewhere, which has furthered the extravagant
accumulation
of wealth by the super-rich. Borrowing from abroad has amounted to
$2
billion a day. But the abrupt decline of the dollar in recent weeks
threatens to undermine confidence, which could interrupt that
massive influx
of capital and lead to a dramatic further decline in the economy.
Meanwhile, joblessness grows, the stock market keeps diving, the
Federal
government is piling up a huge deficit, budget deficits of state
and local
governments are unprecedented in scope, and there are record
corporate
losses including the recent nearly 100 billion record loss by AOL.
Not only are Bush and his Wall Street backers motivated by the
notion that
war and world imperial hegemony will solve such daunting systemic
economic
troubles. They also want to divert the attention of the people
from the
social and economic daily problems they face at home.
In today's world, bristling with arsenals of nuclear weapons,
resort to war
must end once and for all. Fundamental societal changes are
required in
order create the conditions for redirecting the trillions of
dollars flushed
down the drain of military spending to feed the hungry, create
jobs, provide
quality housing, healthcare and education, in the U.S. and
worldwide. This
is also the way to end terrorism. Only massive democratic actions
by the
people can stop the drive to war and ultimately accomplish these
other
essential changes. Therefore, it is more vital than ever in
history to turn
out in our tens millions for the upcoming worldwide anti-war
demonstrations
on February 15 and 16. These challenges can and must be met for
the sake of
humankind's very survival.

You stupid pussy Europeans are just jealous because you know we could bomb you into oblivion and all you could do is drink tea and talk about how "bloody uncivilized" we are. Don't be upset because we are the only world power...and you are our bitches. LOL. What in the world are your Euro-faggots gonna do? Quote some random passage from Voltaire or something? Sound scholarly? Hows this for scholarly...we could wipe you off the face of the globe if we wanted to...we could enslave all your men and sell your women into prostitution if it pleased us....why? Becuase we are the United States of fucking America...that why. We don't have to be "just," ....because we are the big boys on the block...and you Euro's are the local slut who gets gang fucked. So go on...be jealous...shout diplomacy...in the end you won't do anything...and I will be having a ball putting bullets into those greasy sand niggers in Baghdad. Cya.

Yeah Yeah The only thing the US wants is democracy LOL
Paid for by you hey the Us have helped develop fundamentalism. If you for example didn't replace Mossadeq in Iran the revolt against the Shah probably wouldn't have been Islamic.
The list is endless, the reason that the people of the Middle East hate you is not because of your society but because you allways interverne in other countries affairs so you can profit from it.
And well I have been to the US and I have visited a lot of countries but I haven't seen many other places were the gap between rich and poor are so great!

David, why don't you make a trip to America, meet some Americans, and then make a
judgement. Lest you want to generalize Americans based on a handful of us on this site.
A little naive on your part, huh? So, maybe since More than cannot, you can offer up
an alternative to U.S. policy in Iraq that actually has some substance. Or are you just another one quick to denounce the bold steps America is taking, but don't actually know what you would do
instead? Easy for you to take your pot shots and then hide under that nice warm security blanket provided by
and paid for by all of us naive Americans...

More Than says there is no proof of a link between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaida. Does she have any proof that the is no link? History has proven time and again that forces that hate each other will form alliances against a common enemy, and deal with each other at a later time.Anyone who cant clearly see that scenario is living in a fantasy world. "Asymetrical attack" Very well put Joe.

Its plain to see how selective more than is when claiming to have the "facts" on any issue discussed on here. From what I've seen on her many completely slanted url postings is a one way biased opinion carrying less fact than the people she slanders. Far less fact. She seems to believe everything she reads as fact as long as it suits her agenda. No proof of WOMD in Iraq. Does she have any proof that there arent? NO. The war is about taking over Middle east oil reserves. Does she have any REAL proof? NO. I have seen numerous posters raise legitimate questions on this board which are completely ignored by her and others of her ilk. Why? Because an honest response doesn"t fit her agenda. She's very quick to deride those who are less eloquent in stating their case, but who have a right to their opinion just the same. All I see from her is namecalling, lack of regard for the opinions of others, lack of any ideas or solutions to the problems, and lack of any facts to back up her endless conspiracy rhetoric. Kudos to American Joe, American Freedom and others for bringing some fair and meaningful dialoge to the discussion. When confronted by level headed logic, her silence is telling.

So if it isn't Osama talking from cave # 652, making
threats of terrorism. I guess the little fagget forgot that
America slaped his little ass back to the cave "it" crwaled
out of, and put to an end 20 years of his work to spread
his brand of the Koran. You know the version that says it
is good to murder people. Then the coward boasts about
murdering innocent people, and predicts his own death as
a marter. The stupid shit for brains does not even realize
what he and his frends are in for. He does not realize what
we are going to do to him and his murdering supporters.
I will make it simple:
OSAMA IS NO FREND OF ISLAM!
OSAMA IS NOT AN ISLAMIC LEADER WHO CAN ISSUE FATWAS!
COME ON PEOPLE OF PACKASTAN AND AFGANASTAN!
25 MILLION DOLLERS GOES A LONG WAY DEAD OR ALIVE!
IF YOU WANT US OUT OF YOUR BACK YARD - HAND OVER OSAMA!
IF YOU DO NOT YOU WILL WISH YOU NEVER HEARD OF THE UNITED STATES. WE WILL MAKE YOU SUFFER FOR 30 YEARS!
WE ARE COMMING IN!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
By the way If you do kill him make shure he is in good shape for identification

Oh, I forgot. I don't own any oil stock. I don't know

How will I benefit personally? Through a reduced risk of being a victim

Joe - your posts are intelligent and interesting. keep it up. We both know that it is much easier to
criticize and point your finger than it is to find a solution. That is why people like more-than exist.

more-than, cut the crap. I don't know any 9/11 victims personally. I never declared I wanted revenge. This must
be how you help justify things in your head, by putting words in people's mouths to make them seem more
evil to you.
All I said was that you're an idiot for saying families of 9/11 victims need to realize that they weren't attacked
and that it was just corporate america that was attacked.
I'm sure America has supported regimes that became corrupt. My question to you is: who hasn't? And how do
you know that the leadership that was replaced wasn't worse? You don't. You completely ignore all that.
You don't give it time to even cross your mind.
In short, you'll search into the depths of the internet to find out what is wrong with the new government in
Afghanistan, and never once mention the Taliban that it replaced.
It's just more of the same from you. You spend your whole life pointing your finger with great enthusiasm
at isolated events and never taking a step back to see the whole picture.
more-than, people are corrupt. You show me a country that is free of corruption. The thing is,
all of the corruption that happens to be in America is put right up in the front window because of our freedom
of speech & press. Nowhere on this planet is it easier for your crimes to be exposed than in America. Governments
in other countries can hide things to much greater affect because people acting like you disappear quickly and the
people catch on.
You said living in America is no different than living in North Korea?? You really have no idea how good you
have it. That is truly a shame and I know that most people around the world (not just in America) would smack
you for being so spoiled rotten. You go on and on about "American ignorance". Look in the mirror.
American freedom
- Friday, February 14, 2003 at 01:28:20 (CST)
More than, no, I don't think all is right with the world, but I
don't think all is wrong with it either. There have been layoffs, but there has been
hiring as well, you have to look at the net change in overall employment over a given periiod of time. Your excerpt from bill blum's book only contains half the picture. For every country mentioned, there is a much more complex situation. I've tried to read your url's, but
I do have a job and other things to do.
Your quote: "it is shameful to be an american..." I'll let that speak for itself.
I'm assuming you haven't actually thought about an actual alternative to what
we are doing with Iraq, other than "give inspectors more time, and push for a diplomatic
solution." But, you don't seem to actually know how to
go about doing that. It's easy to say "push for a diplomatic solution." Give me an actual thought-out method, then I can respect that.
I admit America has done a lot of dirty work that is not consistent with American values. But, you fail to consider the possibility
that for every shady thing that has come out of America, there is a boat load of positive influences. But, you
wouldn't care about that side of the story since you think that you would be better off
living in N. Korea where you can be used for live human
biological/chemical weapons testing, or you can be forced into slavery in a Russian
style goulag for something your grandparent said before
you were even born.
America has done and continues to do some shitty
things...you are right. But, nothing you have provided has indicated that taking Saddam out is a bad idea overall. There are risks, short term and long term, not doubt.
But, I ask the questions:
Would the Iraqi people be better off with Saddam and his circle gone? Yes
Would the threat to America and its allies from Iraq be removed? Yes.
You are a fool if you think America is the only nation where capitalist motives influence politics. And, you are a fool if you think America is the only country that gets involved in the affairs of other
places to bolster its own interests at that time.
For example, Russia, Iran, Pakistan and India are all
claiming to support the emergence of a democratic government in Afghanistan, but at the same time they are
arming their favorite warlord just in case the democratic experiment
falls through--their guy will have the power. Sound familliar to all the evils
America does? Only it's not America. It's the world we live in, America is just the favorite punching bag.

Since World War II, the U.S. government has given more than
$200 billion in military aid to train, equip, and subsidize more
than 2.3 million troops and internal security forces in more than
eighty countries, the purpose being not to defend them from
outside invasions but to protect ruling oligarchs and
multinational corporate investors from the dangers of domestic
anti-capitalist insurgency. Among the recipients have been some
of the most notorious military autocracies in history, countries
that have tortured, killed or otherwise maltreated large numbers
of their citizens because of their dissenting political views, as
in Turkey, Zaire, Chad, Pakistan, Morocco, Indonesia, Honduras,
Peru, Colombia, El Salvador, Haiti, Cuba (under Batista),
Nicaragua (under Somoza), Iran (under the Shah), the Philippines
(under Marcos), and Portugal (under Salazar).
U.S. leaders profess a dedication to democracy. Yet over the
past five decades, democratically elected reformist governments
in Guatemala, Guyana, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile,
Uruguay, Syria, Indonesia (under Sukarno), Greece, Argentina,
Bolivia, Haiti, and numerous other nations were overthrown by
pro-capitalist militaries that were funded and aided by the U.S.
national security state.
The U.S. national security state has participated in covert
actions or proxy mercenary wars against revolutionary governments
in Cuba, Angola, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Portugal, Nicaragua,
Cambodia, East Timor, Western Sahara, and elsewhere, usually with
dreadful devastation and loss of life for the indigenous
populations. Hostile actions have been directed against reformist
governments in Egypt, Lebanon, Peru, Iran, Syria, Zaire, Jamaica,
South Yemen, the Fiji Islands, and elsewhere.
Since World War II, U.S. forces have directly invaded or
launched aerial attacks against Vietnam, the Dominican Republic,
North Korea, Laos, Cambodia, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Libya,
Iraq, and Somalia, sowing varying degrees of death and
destruction.

american joe..
i have spend the last few months
informing ppl about the bush mob.
call it whining if you want..
whatever it takes to justify your
so called postition. personally, i see
a load of bull twaddle when you say you
were considering not supporting the war.
there has been no concrete evidence to support
this rush to war. no solid proof that sodamn insane
is linked to 9/11 or even al qaeda.
this war is not just. it is about oil and corporate
greed. how many shares of oil stock do you have in your portfolio?
who do you know has oil stock.
how are you going to benefit, personally
from this attack?
i studied the political economy of
communications while at university.
not exactly an economics course, but not
exactly being completely ignorant as to how
economy works. in fact, it gave
be a good background as to how
politics and economy are inter related.
gee..maybe that's how i get my understanding
of what's going on..do ya think.
well..i'll have to go dig up the
figures on the rise n fall of the
employment rate..coz geez there have been lay
offs across america..big ones.
100,000 this month, 60 thou that month.
lots of ppl holding 2 or 3 part time jobs
to make ends meet.
so..joe..you take your ill informed whining
about my assault on the corporate menance
that dominates the american political economy
and the propaganda machine that dupes ppl like
you into believing all is right with the
world.
have you even tried to read any
of the urls i've posted. i've
got a feeling the answer is not.
you don't want to be informed.
you are happy in your blissful
ignorance that america has killed
millions so we can "enjoy" the
right to say we've got the biggest
and bestest country in the world.
it is shameful to be an american, especially
if one even attempts to call themselves a christian.
can you tell me..how killing women and children, elderly or disabled
children is christ like?
ah..the american delusion.

More than, of the three months you have been whining
on this chat room, you have offered up the following alternative to U.S. policy:
"allow more time for inspectors. Push for diplomatic solutions."
Of all the volumes of whining and crying about America, that's all you can come up with as far as an alternative?
It has absolutely no substance. What will giving the inspectors more time accomplish? Push for diplomatic solutions? What the hell does that actually
mean? Can you get anymore vague than that? How exactly do you go about pushing for a
diplomatic solution with Saddam.
Saddam got his foot in the door in Iraqi politics by
assassinating someone. He has killed his own relatives for dissagreeing with him.
Our unemployment rate? It's actually gone down this quarter. Our unemployment rate in the early 80's was as high
as 11%, again it's 6% now. 5% is considered the most healthy economic rate in a capitalist society as lower
unemployment tightens job markets and creates inflationary pressures.
So, being that you are an investigative reporter by trade
you probably are very pre-disposed to assume that your subjects are doing something scandalous and it's just a matter of uncovering it.
YOU need an open mind, not me.
I was against this war, but have changed my mind--still have mixed feelings about it.
I look at both sides of the story, which is partly why I'm entertaining your information.
So far I've seen 99% non-sense with very little actual relavence to the actual problem.

Can't spend too much time today since I'm one of those
"corporate honchos" who have jobs. I'm curious, though:
More than, you are articulate and resourceful, and pretty good
at finding bits and pieces of information that work with your
conspiracy theory non-sense. You said recently that most people believe we should resolve the problem with Iraq
diplomatically. Okay, why don't you explain how exactly that is done. You are spending
a lot of time whining and complaining, but what would YOU do?
France, Germany, Russia and China are doing the same thing.
Their answer is: increase the number of inspectors. And, do what? It is not the inspectors job to find weapons
that Iraq has hidden, it's Iraq's agreed responsibility to prove it has dissarmed. Your statement that most people outside of America don't believe Powell,
is false. They don't trust Powell, but most people who are against the war agree Iraq
obviously still has these weapons and is playing games with the inspection process. Iraq appears to be smarter than France, Germany, Russia and China as these countries
are buying into its deception. By the way, the U.S. economy is not failing. It is in recession. Recessions are cyclical, they happen consistently about every 10 years (early 70's, early 80's early 90's, early 00's). I guess you have to be older than about 18 to really remember more than one recession. Take an economics class! U.S. unemployment is at 6% while Germany's is at about 11%. Inflation is minimal, home purchasing is at
a high. Yeah, that's a "failing" economy...
Your information about the babies being removed from
the incubators in the first Gulf war is accurate.
That was un-true and very dissappointing. I don't trust everything I hear from the U.S. government either, but, I believe their current position on Iraq is correct.
Although the incubator story was fabricated, and that's unfortunate, not un-true is the hangings, tortures, and imprisonment of Kuwaiti civilians by the Iraqi military.

The ink was barely dry on the headline of USA Today -- "Bush: The Game Is
Over" -- when the response came from French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre
Raffarin: "It's not a game. It's not over."
For the first time in decades, the "Old Europe" that Defense Secretary
Donald Rumsfeld so contemptuously dismissed is standing up to
Washington. France and Germany, together with Russia issued a joint
statement on Iraq, calling for increased inspections and a postponement of
the war that President Bush wants so badly. Within NATO, France,
Germany, and Belgium have further angered Washington by announcing
they would veto a U.S. request for military equipment to be used by Turkey
in the war against Iraq.
It is too early to tell whether the European leaders are serious, or merely
setting up political cover for a future capitulation to the Bush Administration.
Some would like to give in to Washington but are under pressure from the
voting public, which in Europe is overwhelmingly against the war.
Secretary of State Colin Powell's long and boring presentation at the UN
convinced only those who really wanted to be convinced. So Saddam
Hussein is a liar and a cheat -- what else is new? Powell has been lying,
too: his claim that UN inspectors caught Iraq moving and hiding illicit
materials was false. So, too, was President Bush's assertion that the
International Atomic Energy Agency had found Iraq to be six months away
from developing a nuclear weapon.
During the first Gulf War, our government used manufactured evidence of all
kinds to deceive the American public. The Pentagon claimed it had satellite
photos showing Iraqi tanks and 250,000 troops poised to invade Saudi
Arabia. Then there was the horrifying story about Iraqi troops killing 312
babies in a Kuwaiti hospital by stealing their incubators. Both of these
stories played a major role in winning domestic support for the war; both
later turned out to be false.
Now we have alleged links of Iraq to Al-Qaeda, although denied by our own
CIA and British intelligence. This is a joke. According to the standards
adopted by the Bush administration -- the presence of people associated
with Al-Qaeda inside the country -- "Old Europe" and even the United
States would be shown to have stronger ties than Iraq to Al-Qaeda.
The bottom line is that this war has nothing to do with our national security.
To the Bush Administration, and its chief political strategist Karl Rove, it is
a game. It's a power grab. Having successfully used the confrontation with
Iraq to win both houses of Congress last November, they intend to ride their
"War on Terrorism" all the way to the White House in 2004.
These people know how to read the polls. The Republicans have a 54-16
lead on "security" issues, but would lose badly on the economy, jobs, the
budget, Medicare, or any other set of domestic issues. Not to mention the
string of scandals -- Harken Energy, Haliburton, Enron and other corporate
malfeasance, and the September 11 intelligence failures -- that the war talk
has allowed them to sidestep.
So they can grab power at home, and power abroad -- control over Middle
Eastern oil has been a key component of American global dominance
since the end of World War II. It's a win-win situation. If the anger provoked
by the mass killing of civilians in Iraq leads to terrorist attacks on
Americans, this will provide further justification for Dick Cheney's vision of a
war without end.
All this is obvious to most of the world, but here at home it is obscured by
the media. Although most journalists are against the war, they mainly offer
the Bush Administration's point of view -- especially in the broadcast
media. Our journalists follow an unwritten rule: unless the leadership of the
opposition party offers a strong rebuttal, then reporting the news means
reporting the arguments of those who are in power.
And there's the catch: the Democratic leadership has shamefully abdicated
its responsibility to oppose the war. This leaves tens of millions of
Americans who do not want this war -- a majority in some polls -- with very
little representation in the major news media, allowing the Administration a
huge advantage in its daily public relations campaign. If not for this
advantage, Bush's game would certainly be over.

Why might Europeans not trust Mr. Bush
to follow through after an Iraq war?
One answer is that they've been
mightily unimpressed with his
follow-through in Afghanistan.
Another is that they've noticed
that promises the Bush administration
makes when it needs military allies
tend to become inoperative once
the shooting stops — just ask
General Musharraf about Pakistan's
textile exports.
But more broadly, they may have noticed something that is becoming

the Bush administration's
consistent unwillingness to take

problems.
When the going gets tough, it seems,
Mr. Bush changes the subject.

they have about 30 miles of swampy coastline.
the page i posted about 1990
iraq/kuwait gives synopsis of what
has lead us to this point in
history..of course being a redneck
you don't want to look at history.
you only want to look at now.
you don't even want to look at tomorrow.
all you want to do is go kick butt. you don't want
to look at the consequences.
yesterday, i heard pretty much
a solid day of how the french were
cowards and that they were destroying
nato.
um..how about this scenario. the
french are extremely brave to stand
up to bushwhacko and are heros
for doing so.
they are aware of the economic
agenda behind the political diplomacy.
france, germany, belgium deserve
a standing ovation for having
the heart and courage to care
about other ppl on this planet.
not just their corporate connections.
america is a spoilt rich child
having a temper tantrum because
someone has something they don't.
america..read as bush..as gone out
and bought, bartered and promised
what ever it takes to get the spoiled
baby whatever it wants.
bush is making america the laughing stock of
the planet. a news clip on japan was very
insightful yesterday.
the woman interviewed said.
america is our friend. we are
telling our friend they are about
to make a big mistake. you do that
for your friends. protect them from
themselves. warn them.
90 percent of the japanese ppl are against this war.
every country around the world opposes
the war..their leaders are the
only ones who are listening to
america.
where is this so called democracy
america is supposed to have blanketted the
civilized world in.
the majority..the ppl are saying
no war. the ppl are saying solve
the iraqi problem with diplomacy.
america's purpose should be
no more than to stand behind the
world as a **possible** enforcer
to make sure rebellious countries
do as the democracy of the ppl want.
instead, it is creating an impossible
situtation. it has the world
poised on the brink of WW3.
news on bbcworld today. korea can
hit any american target on the planet.
korea is oil starved. you don't think
they won't jump in if iraq is
attacked?
korea and the usa's problems began
in 1997 when the usa began breaching
the treaty. but, the usa is the one
calling foul..they break the treaty..
but its the other countries fault.
yeah..america the temper tantrum..big
baby of the world. it is immature and
spoiled. and with a moron like
bushwhacko at the helm..supported
by brainwashed/duped patsys..off
to war we go..
bloody suicidal idiots.
neo nazi retards.
i resent you for destroying the
american dream. for allowing
the collapse of the roman empire
while mad emporer nero fiddles with the bilderbergers.

Ronnie - simply put, if it doesn't work, people won't buy it.
more-than, it's funny watching you squirm in the face of the big picture. All I said was that the few subs
Iraq had came from Russia just like almost every other part of their arsenol. I never said they were a major
sea power.
How about this more-than, if you want to know what happened in 1990, pay attention in 1990. How's
that for a radical new idea? How about this more-than, if you need to find out where this crisis started, what are

Hope you all are very comfortable taking pot shots
at America from the protection of America's security blanket.
Do you sleep well at night knowing that America's "inferior"
F-16's will kick the crap out of anyone that tries to take YOUR freedoms? Are you satisfied that your national protection
is largely paid for by Americans? And, you think
American corporate greed somehow takes something from you that you inherently deserve...
Yeah, America is the most powerful nation
in the world, therefore, we must be entirely to blame
for everything, right? Every horrible thing that happens in the world--must be America's fault, right?
Your problem is that you actually respect America too much, since you seem to think that America has complete
control of the cosmos--can't possibly
imagine how all-mightly America could have been attacked, so therefore, America must have been behind it, or at least let it happen! I'm sorry, who is ignorant and arrogant?
I have
an idea, let's give you un-
greatful whiners what you say you want. Let's
close down our military bases in your countries,
not conduct trade with your
countries (since I'm assuming
you are against world trade), remove our NATO agreements for mutual protection. Then, when your economies crumble from being
isolated, and every rat bastard with a little bit
of inherited power lines up
at your border to take a big wet bite out of your ass,
America can sit back and watch your countries break up into
pieces. Then when you are standing in your bread lines
you can ponder America's "inferior" products and catch yourself muttering, " I would kill
for a Big Mac right now" (notice I used McDonalds and not
Burger King since Burger King happens to be a British company--are they part of this
American looting of the world? You know, there are a lot of successful
corporations that are not American. Nokia--Finnish, Ericsson--Swedish, Bic--British, Nortel--Canadian, etc., etc., You think the motivation of oil is unique
to America? Look at what France and Russia have been
doing with Iraq in the last 2-3 years--trying to be first
in line at their oil when the sactions are lifted.

Iraq/Kuwait 1990
The current conflict had its origins in the brutal 1980-88
war between Iraq and Iran. Iraq charged that while it was locked
in battle, Kuwait was engaged in stealing $2.4 billion of oil
from the Rumaila oil field that ran beneath the vaguely-defined
Iraq-Kuwait border and was claimed in its entirety by Iraq; that
Kuwait had built military and other structures on Iraqi
territory; and worst of all, that immediately after the war
ended, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates began to exceed the
production quotas established by the Organization of Petroleum
Exporting Countries (OPEC), flooding the oil market, and driving
prices down. Iraq was heavily strapped and deeply in debt
because of the long war, and Iraqi President Saddam Hussein
declared this policy was an increasing threat to his country --
"economic war", he called it, pointing out that Iraq lost a
billion dollars a year for each drop of one dollar in the oil
price.{7} Besides compensation for these losses, Hussein
insisted on possession of the two Gulf islands which blocked
Iraq's access to the Gulf as well as undisputed ownership of the
Rumaila oilfield.

you're right. it is right near
an oil refinery, basrah. but, you
know, i'm not finding anything
about it being a deep sea harbor. or
used for shipping or military.
guess the gulf war news reports,
coming from cnn were lying when they
said sodamn wanted kuwait because
it would give him access to seaports.
oh yeah, and that kuwait had once been
a province of iraq before the west partitioned it
off.

Before I exit, I have one more piece of information for
everyone to chew on: In 1981, Israel to the bold action of unilaterally and preemptively
sending one of it's top fighter pilots (who recently passed on in the Columbia crash) on a mission to Iraq. The whole world, including America, condemned this action.
The mission was to destroy Iraq's nuclear weapons development facility. They succeeded. It is now believed
that had Israel not taken that courageous action, against the will of the world and of public opinion,
Iraq would have created a nuclear bomb before 1990. Had it not been for that mission, we would either have a much worse situation now,
or Saddam would have used his nuke on someone, inevitably resulting
in a retaliatory strike and the loss of far more innocent
Iraqi lives than is likely in
today's conflict. It is time for the world to stop messing around
with leaders who are deliberate murderers of innocent people
and just take them the hell out. Propping up democratic free governments afterwords
may be expansionist, but it's way better than risking it with
idiot bizarre dictators.
By the way, the likely responding argument that
America has been the biggest supporter of brutal dictatorships does not hold any salt. During the Cold War we did prop up some dictators to prevent the advance of Communism--a lesser of two evils choice at the time. The Cold War is over and the new threat is
terrorism and rogue brutal dictators

Texas Patriot - I agree. I know what kind of person we're dealing with in more-than. Basically the
equivalent of an over-zealous religious cult leader. I liked the Wizard of Oz metaphor, it made me laugh.
more-than, sorry I don't have time tonight to whip your ass in debate like last night, as I only have time for this one post.
But I'll repeat--go look at a map. Iraq is not land-locked. And I am not talking about a river. It borders
the Persian Gulf between Kuwait and Iran. And I find it funny that you used Israeli air defense missiles
to try and make them sound like a threat. Air defense missiles are not for killing people, they are for
intercepting incoming SCUDs (which remember, more-than, are Russian, not American). You will find that while Iraq
has purchased things from America that can kill people, Russia has contributed to about 90% of their military
capabilities. Not that you care about the big picture. Obviously you weren't very old during the Gulf War, as
you don't know any of this. You also didn't know about the Iraq-Israel part of the Gulf War that I described.
No big surprise there. I apologize that I will be unavailable to shut you down tonight, but maybe another
time, seeing as you have nothing else to do 7 days a week but sit on this webpage and complain. You hate
America and you get a kick out of calling yourself a patriot. You dismiss the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo,
claiming that we were involved solely "to keep trade routes open" and then whine that the American
government trampling your rights by increasing their capabilities to look out for terrorism. And (this one is
surprising, even for you) you claim living under Bush's regime is like living under the fist of communist North Korea. I think you're pretty
good at kicking your own ass here, so I'll leave you to your rantings about conspiracies and half-truths.

more than, so what kind of car do you drive? Do you heat
your home? Do you work? I can see your response now,
something like: only because the "corporate agenda" forces me to live this way. So, I guess you would rather live by
walking around in the forest with a club, picking berries all day? Am I one of those "Corporate Honchos"
you speak of because I have a job? It would be nice if oil
was not the fuel that makes the world run, but that's the
way it is currently, and I believe that fewer innocent Iraqi's
will suffer in the long run the sooner we get rid of Saddam and open the door for
a government where the Iraqi people actually have a say
in things--and don't get gassed to death for whatever reason.

dsblueyes, Canada is a great, free and beautiful country. Be thankful you live there.
The world IS addressing N. Korea now. Yes, I have heard of conspiracies, and they do exist.
And, the biggest conspiracy of the 21st century so far
is the network of unfortunate misguided terrorists who "conspired"
to kill many Americans AND Canadians on 9/11. Another big one is the Iraqi thugs
who have "conspired" dupe the free world into thinking they
are not a threat. Two scenarios for you:
1.) Saddam Hussein enlists a few of his most trusted to get a container of Nerve Agent
spilled in Times Square.
2.) 19 Arab terrorists move to the U.S., learn to fly jets, hijack 4 of them and
fly them into WTC and the Pentagon.
If asked before 9/11 which scenario is more likely, most
would say the first one--from Iraq. Only the second one actually happened. Iraq is
absolutely a threat. The fact that their missiles can't
reach us means little in an asymetrical conflict.
Canada, America is not your enemy, it is your friend, okay?
